Practical and stylistic advice for perfect grout lines

How to choose the colour of the grout lines for rectified floors

The grout line is the distance that separates one tile from another and is a necessary element because it permits dilation of the floors and natural settling due to structural movements, humidity, and variations in temperature.

Despite being necessary, not everyone likes the contrast created between the colour of the grout lines and the colour of the tiles. If this is the case, one should look into rectified flooring (tiles with perfectly straight edges) which makes it possible to leave a much narrower grout line, starting at just 1mm.

The colour of the grout lines is just as important to reducing contrast and creating the impression of a continuous surface, suitable to modern spaces.

Some advice on choosing the colour for grout lines, so as to achieve a uniform result:

Tone on tone

Choose a colour that is slightly lighter than that of the tiles: over time grout lines tend to get dirty and become darker.

Neutral colours

When using a product with many different shades, like wood effect porcelain stoneware, it is better to use a neutral colour for the grout lines, one that picks up on the most dominant colour in the tiles. In this way the laying of the tiles will be uniform and the grout lines will naturally blend into the flooring.

Avoid white

Light colours get dirty more easily, especially on the floor and in spaces prone to soiling, like the kitchen, the entrance, and the garden.

Test the product

A wide variety of grout colours are available on the market: we recommend asking your installer for a sample of colours and placing them next to the tiles so as to help you choose the most suitable tone.

Slowing down today, to come back stronger tomorrow.

Today more than ever, doing business demands a strong sense of responsibility as well as the ability to be flexible, in particular at a time as dramatically complex as the one we’ve been living through over the past few weeks due to the Covid-19 situation.

Right from the start we instituted a series of strict rules for the purpose of safeguarding the health and safety of our employees in the workplace, in full respect of the regulations passed by the Italian government.

Now we have decided to temporarily halt manufacturing in our Italian sites, which will remain closed for three weeks as of this Friday 20th March because of an external economic situation that is momentarily impacting negatively the market.

Nevertheless, the company is not closing.

We are here for you, and for those who wish to continue choosing our products and to whom we will guarantee the best commercial assistance and an efficient delivery service.

We are still here, with our continuous innovation and our ongoing research into new products and solutions that we will soon be proud to launch.

We will come back even stronger than before, ready for the new challenges that await us!
